Oregon Realtor Past-President John Baker passed the real estate exam, among hundreds of others, in the Jackman Long Building at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in August 1976 and began his career with Ned Baker Real Estate in Salem, Oregon a week after graduating from college in June 1977. Following his father’s admonition that “You must invest in Real Estate” and a surprise gift of $2,000 from his grandmother’s will in July 1978, he bought his first rental property in December of that year. He and his wife achieved financial freedom in 2010 and own over thirty properties in four states.
